Which City's Fitness Scene Should You Rock?

Find out which sporty spot was basically made for you.

Let's face it: Where you work out is a major part of your life. And while there's nothing wrong with the fact that the front desk attendant at your gym knows your fitness class schedule or you recognize the faces of the joggers on your morning run, it can't hurt to spice up the location of your routine. For our October 2014 issue (with Kate Hudson on the cover!), Women's Health joined forces with Yelp to find the best mid-sized cities in the U.S. for fitness junkies. Find out which one suits your workout style and start planning your trip. Fit-cation, anyone?!
1. When you come home from working out, what is the first thing you do?
WAVEBREAKMEDIA LTD/ WAVEBREAK MEDIA
I like to light some candles and meditate post-workout.
Take my shoes off at the front door. They're usually pretty muddy.
Jump in the shower to wash all the chalk off my hands and body.
I check my gym's class schedule for tomorrow so I can plan my day around it.
Lock up my bike. I would be lost without it.
2. What gets you psyched to get your sweat on?
MTOOME/ISTOCK
A gorgeous landscape.
The thought of conquering a big challenge.
Inspirational instructors.
Knowing how energized I'll be afterward.
Wind in my face.
3. What song best describes your workout routine?
JULIEF514/ISTOCK
"Push It" by Salt-N-Pepa. This song embodies the insane amount of chaturangas I do each week.
"Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls because I'm always spicing up my routine.
"Rolling on the River" by Tina Turner. One of my absolute favorite outdoor workouts is kayaking. Oh, and hiking and biking!
"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus. Whether it's a mountain or a wall, I want to work my way up it.
"Bicycle Race" by Queen. 'Nuff said.
4. The piece of workout gear that you spent the most money on is…
AMMENTORP PHOTOGRAPHY/ISTOCK
My bike
My Lululemon collection
Any of my rock climbing gear (ropes, pack, you name it—but you can never invest too much in your safety)
My cross-training shoes
My kayak
5. What animal best matches your workout style?
SUPHATTHRA CHINA/THINKSTOCK
The (downward) dog.
I don't think there's an animal that rides a bike. If there is, I want one.
A frog because they love spending time in water and on land.
A chameleon because I'm always changing up my workouts with fun classes like kickboxing and Zumba.
A mountain goat.
6. The thought of doing the same workout every day sounds…
SIRI STAFFORD/DIGITAL VISION
Fine to me.
Horrible. Period.
OK, as long as I could switch up the location.
The same activity is fine, but I'd want to do it on different terrain.
So monotonous. I'm fine heading inside to exercise every time, I would just want to keep my body guessing.
7. Your favorite fitness selfie you've ever posted on Instagram is of…
WAVEBREAKMEDIA LTD/WAVEBREAK MEDIA
Me wearing my helmet 100 feet in the air with a beautiful backdrop.
The collage I made when I jogged, biked, and kayaked all in one day.
Biking with my friends on our favorite trail.
Post-workout, dripping sweat with my cycling instructor. That was such an amazing class.
Definitely one of my fun handstand selfies.
8. What's your favorite weather for an outdoor workout?
MARIDAV/ISTOCK
As long as it's safe, I'm always outside—I don't plan my workouts according Mother Nature.
Anything that allows me to move at high speeds without putting myself in danger.
Meh, I don't love working out outside.
I'll head out if it's bright and sunny and there's a breeze.
I cannot resist a warm and sunny day.
9. And what happens to your workout if it's raining outside?
PETR_JOURA/ISTOCK
No, I'd stay outdoors—but I'd want to make sure it was safe.
Heck, no! A little mud wouldn't stop me.
Nope—the sound of the rain patter would actually be relaxing.
Nope, I'm usually indoors anyways.
No—I'd move inside, no problem.
10. You brought your workout bag to the office but realize that you forgot a sports bra. Is that a sweat session deal-breaker for you?
THINKSTOCK
I won't be super-comfortable, but it's not a deal breaker.
Sadly, yes. But luckily I keep a spare one in my gym locker!
It depends on the workout. I’d probably be fine on the water, but not on the trails.
I don't like getting sweaty in my everyday bra, but I don't need a sports bra to exercise.
The lack of support would be totally fine, but stretching won't feel fun with all that wiring.
